Claire Faltesek has worked in several different materials over the years. The enjoyable act of creating something tangible remains a constant attraction for her, whether in bronze, wax, plaster, clay, stone, paint, or charcoal on paper.

 

She creates both abstract and realistic art and is intrigued with working from imagination and also directly from life. She often merges natural shapes such as a beautiful rock formation or a rolling wave with those of the human body. Forty years of studying human form provides a strong base of knowledge.

 

Born in Wisconsin, Claire grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota where she briefly studied at the classical Atelier Lack. She received her BFA in 1982 from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena California where she first sculpted from life. She learned bronze casting at the Pratt Fine Art Institute in Seattle and stone carving from a granite sculptor in 1989. Claire moved to the northwest in the early eighties where she continues to explore the human form.

 

Claire's work has appeared in the Maryhill Museum of Art and group and solo exhibitions throughout Washington. She has taught private students, art classes, workshops and seminars. She has created portrait commissions in bronze, clay, charcoal on paper, and watercolor. A newspaper review described her sculpture as having a smooth curving line and an aura of timelessness.

 

When she first thought to try making art, she wondered how she would feel about it.

It quickly became something that she could imagine doing for her entire life. More than forty years later, it still is!
